WEEK 7: Country Strong Is the Wynner

The Golfers Gone Wild Tour finally caught a break with the weather last Saturday, May 23 and players took on one of the areas toughest courses, George Dunne National.

The challenge from George Dunne National Golf Course (slope rating of 130) was met and overcome by a Country Strong performance. Ron shot a net 65, on what is rumored to be his home course. Forced by the GGW Rules Official to play from the white tees, Country Strong overpowered the 6,148 yard layout and beat the field by 7 net strokes. Starting with par on #1, Ron easily put this GGW Tour event in the Wynne column.

The Rifleman continued his accurate shooting over the last few weeks and had a second place finish. Charles Conner was the only other player besides Ron to play below net par. Grade A, another power player on the GGW Tour, had his first finish in the money, placing third.

The Gambler, returned from a two week Southern golf holiday, to win 9 skins. Warnell hit key birdies at #14 and #17 on his way to shooting an 89. With his third round in the book, he now has a GGW handicap and should be a weekly tournament threat.

Single Skin wins for Cadillac Blue, Double D and the Silent Assassin saved the First 4some off the tee box from completely wasting a perfectly good day.

Although, Country Strong added 6,656 GGW Cup Points and 6 skins from the event to his totals, Lucky Lefty kept his lead in points and Kappatain Styles maintained a narrow lead with 19 skins won to date.

The Tournament Director has selected Glenwoodie Golf Course for our next event on Saturday. Check your email for tee times. It will be a makeup for the unplayable date, week 6.
