The famed Augusta Golf Club moved its Masters Tournament up to Easter Weekend this year. Bowing to our own tradition, Golfers Gone Wild held its Opening Round on Saturday, April 7 at University Park Golf Club.
Unlike the Masters playoff finish between Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuzien, our first GGW Tour Event wasn't close. Steady Eddie had a Masterful Start to the 2012 Golf Season. Eddie shot a smoking hot 80 and beat the rest of the field by more than 5 strokes net. Steady Eddie also won 11 skins and over $120 of the prize pool. Prime Time proved ready when the lights came on for the season with a 2nd place finish. Silent Assassin was deadly again, came in third and won 4 skins. Way Cool and Lucky Lefty picked up points rounded out the top five.
Kappatain Styles struggled but at least won 3 skins. Rifleman, Country Strong and Grade A turned out to be just spectators.
Two players hot in pre-season, laid an egg right before Easter. Bigg Dogg didn't even show up to the hunt. TaylorMade Kid, carding a 101, obviously could never find anything of value.
Steady Eddie dropped his handicap a full stroke going into this week's play and now sports the lowest GGW Index at 12.9. With the Tour win, almost all the skins and on tops on the money list , he leads in every category right from the get-go.
GGW Opening Day regulars Cadillac Blue and Quick Draw who were unfairly excluded from this week's round, will be awarded some random points later for no good reason, when Way Cool and Country Strong are not watching as closely. But the rest of you need step up your game to catch up to Steady Eddie after his Masterful start to the 2012 season.
