Bigg Dogg Returns To Winners Circle At Scherwood
2012 GGW Event No. 20
Golfers Gone Wild held its 20th Tour Event of 2012 at Scherwood Golf Course in Schererville, Indiana on Sunday, July 17. GGW tries to hit on this 6248 yard par 71 golf course layout at least once a year. There have been some memorable GGW Events at Scherwood.
In 2009, Kappatain Styles was simply spectacular, shooting his personal best 83, highlighted by five straight pars to close out the round. In 2010, we had almost a full house, but could not escape from a rampaging Bigg Dogg, who played us like a reverse Robin Hood. Last year we were almost done, but torrential rain stopped play at about the 14th hole.
This year our return to Scherwood also marked the return of Bigg Dogg to the Winners’ Circle. As GGW Scheduler pro-tempore, Lonnie could have chosen several courses. Courageously, he chose to defend one of his own GGW course titles. Shooting a vicious 82, including ten pars and a birdie, Bigg Doggsuccessfully beat down the field again, winning by almost 5 net strokes.
Ironically, even with all that scoring, Bigg Dogg won zero skins. Even his birdie on par 5 #3 was pushed by Country Strong. Pars were plentiful, except on #16, where The Gambler sunk a 50 foot putt to win all of the first 16 skins making a solo par. Sixteen skins won in one day tied a GGW record held bySteady Eddie (University, 2012), TaylorMade Kid (The Meadows, 2011), Country Strong (Cardinal Creek, 2009).
Twelve GGW made up the field on Sunday. All players were playing fairly well and the competition to place was tight. Runner-up was Country Strong who shot net 70.6. Third was a hot shooting Rifleman, who fired a net 70.7. Steady Eddie and The Gambler tied for 4th place with 70.9.
Other Golfers were near the top, Cadillac Blue (71.4) and Hawk (71.5) were less than a stroke from 2nd place. Lucky Lefty (72), Silent Assassin (73) andSpin City (74) had very competitive rounds. Even the bottom two spots on the leaderboard were only 5 over net par, as Quick Draw and Double D both shot a net 76.
Bigg Dogg needed this win (and 10,564 GGW points) to move up in the 2012 GGW Tour standing. After coming in second at a minor GGW Tour Event No. 19 at Ravisloe and with this victory in Schererville, perhaps Bigg Dogg can chase down the GGW points leaders over the second half of the season. Lucky Lefty, who even had luck on the Friday the 13th, and won the Ravisloe event; remains the GGW Points Leader.
We hadn’t been out to Indiana in a while, the next round may well be another Hoosier course, perhaps Turkey Creek, White Hawk or Palmira. Check your email. The 2012 Player of the Year race is not over.
GGW Point standings and handicaps through all of the 20 Events are as follows:
