Rifleman Roughs Up Green Garden
2012 GGW Event No. 6
NATO leaders arrived in Chicago this weekend bringing protests throughout the area. Unruly mobs took over public parks. Some white supremacists got their skinheads batted around at a Tinley Park restaurant. Chicago Police, always ready to get rough with rabble rousers, kept rowdy crowds in check.
Despite that mayhem, You Golfers Gone Wild held your 6th Tour Event of 2012 on Sunday, May 21 in Frankfort, Illinois on Green Garden’s Gold Course. After all shots were counted, it was our own Rifleman, Chuck Conner, who defeated the eleven man field.
Actually this event was captured without much downtown drama. Rifleman posted an outstanding 92 net 69; easily winning by 4 net strokes. And, Conner was the only player to break net par on what turned out to be an outstanding day to play golf. Too bad very little outstanding golf was played.
Coming in second was Lucky Lefty (89 net 73). Miller’s 44/45 won the front side and overall Nassau bet. Hawk also shot well on the front 9 and placed third. Quick Draw got past Silent Assassin by less than 1/10 of a net stroke for fourth place; though both still finished in the money.
Long hitters, Cadillac Blue (97 net 78), Country Strong (96 net 78), and Steady Eddie (94 net 79) all had a rough time keeping the ball in the short grass. But they were still better than, Double D and Mr Benny, who both had raw scores well into triple digits. GGW has no idea what to make of Bigg Dogg’s day. Lonnie carded a 56/41 with a net 83. His 41 won Nassau back 9 and even picked up a skin.
In general, Skins were spread around. Big winners were Quick Draw who won seven, with key birdie putt on #5 and Cadillac Blue earned six, making a key solo par on #14.
Rifleman picked up 10,000+ GGW points and vaulted into fifth place after six events. Even though he was shut out this past Sunday, Steady Eddie remains the overall leader in points by more than 7,000 on the strength of two wins in the other five outings.
Current GGW Point Standings, Skins Won and Current Handicaps for all qualified Tour players follow:
Actually, no matter where you stand, this coming weekend provides an excellent opportunity to get into contention for 2012 Player of the Year Honors. The 7th GGW Tour Event will be played this Saturday at Heritage Bluffs Golf Course in Channahon, Illinois off I-55. This will be the first of four MAJOR events of the season. Remember points earned in each major will count double.
Last week, Rifleman Roughed Up Green Garden Gold; taking hold of his fifth GGW Course Title. Ironically, Conner is also the reigning GGW Titleholder at Heritage Bluffs (30 July 2011). You got game enough to take it from him? With the NATO summit now history it’s time for you to try and make news with a MAJOR WIN.
